The challenge
Vehicle development requires collaboration across specialist teams, stages and deliverables. Disconnected project information makes it harder to keep activities and supporting knowledge aligned.
The approach
AlphaFlow BPA translated CVDP development standards into workflow templates with defined tasks, owners, schedules and deliverables. Plan approvals and changes connected workflow execution with project milestones and review gates.
Connecting project work
Integration with MES, PDM and BOM systems supported retrieval and return of development data. Deliverables were submitted and archived with their project and task records. Proven workflows could be reused as templates for subsequent vehicle programs.
What changed
The case provides a manufacturing example of using workflows to support product development coordination. Its scope is SAIC MAXUS; it should not be interpreted as an implementation across the entire SAIC group.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Takeaways for your team.
- Connect process ownership with the people and systems that maintain it.
- Build ongoing review and maintenance into the implementation.
